12 Aug Peace talk…in Alaska?
Oh wow where are we going now? Alaska…um ALASKA??
Alaska wasnt the place of biggest intereset for august holidays but look at it now! The mid week of August ’25 is now fully booked. Planes, hotels, parking lots… For 15th august it seems to be the golden map point to be at.
Cant find any ticket and hotel? Well, blame this histrical meeting of Russia and the US on 15th of August.
I wonder how this choice of a place popped up. There are different thoughts and views on it, from very deep and historical* to so lame-thinking like this place is just the best zone for President Putin to fly save.
* 15th of August 1945 — Victory over Japan in WWII. The day when Japan capitulate/ surrendered to the Allied forces and some consider it as a final peace deal of WWII; 15th of August is also tightly liked to many religious holidays.
*Alaska was part of the Russian Empire and was sold to the US in 1867 year.

Yes, quite interesting how this meeting would go and what would be the outcome(s). Predictions?
Russians think…compared what we thought then
‘what would we get from this meeting? Talk out of an oil trade ban, discuss who has what now and how to finish it…?’
‘we should not agree on…anything. Our terms are always ignored…’
‘what a peace deal we can have? On what terms?’
‘what is the stumbling block now?…’
The “stumbling block” is the very Russian way for asking the reason why something doesn’t go the way it should.
Squeeze out some peace?
How often we hear about some kind of peace and whatsoever victory plan that has NO concrete terms: where this “demilitarisation” or “potential threat” lies… Unfortunately, with time the red lines and other gates for peace deal just fade, or at least tagged as ‘outdated’, ‘not real’, and rather adding more filler of issues and figures in the field that just there to stop you from ink-stamp any deal.
Voice of a peace? Who is up for it?
Well, distantly — many, who raised and still raising their voices to offer ‘their ground for round’… ahem, round table. But this nice gesture usually doest not pass further a gentle smirk an eye-wink.
All comes to … Look at it in purity: who is fighting for what now?; For who an escalation is only way to retreat/regain territories; Who was more successful with their strategies so far? ; Supported/allied with who?; How ‘peace’ rhetoric is used from both sides?… To draw on a bigger picture when the real peace might happen.
Yeah, quite complex, and sure all of this, could be bias. Another challenge — to scoop on potential moves and position of each side on the case, allied forces including.
